Areas for Improvement
Our Review
The G3's physical design continues LG's gallery series aesthetic with an incredibly slim profile that's meant to be wall-mounted. The build quality is exceptional, with premium materials and a near-zero gap wall mount included. At just a few millimeters thick across most of the panel, it creates a striking floating appearance. However, the lack of a standard stand in the box means additional purchase is required for table placement.
Performance-wise, the G3 represents a quantum leap in OLED capability. The new MLA technology, combined with LG's latest processing, delivers peak brightness levels approaching 1500 nits in HDR highlights - a significant improvement over previous generations. Color accuracy out of the box is excellent, and the perfect blacks OLED is known for remain intact. Motion handling is superb, with minimal artifacts even during fast-moving scenes.
The webOS interface has been refined for 2023, offering snappier navigation and a more intuitive layout. The new home screen aggregates content well, though some may find the advertising presence intrusive. Gaming features are comprehensive, with four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM. Input lag in game mode is extremely low at under 13ms.
The Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor handles upscaling admirably, making both 1080p and 4K content look their best. HDR format support includes Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, and HLG, though Samsung's HDR10+ remains absent. The sound quality from the integrated speakers is decent but won't match a dedicated sound system.
From a value perspective, the G3 commands a premium price that positions it at the top end of the consumer TV market. While less expensive OLED options exist, including LG's own C3 series, none match the G3's brightness capabilities and overall performance. The main competition comes from Samsung's S95C QD-OLED, which offers similar peak brightness but different strengths in color volume.
Our Conclusion
🏁Final Verdict
Highly RecommendedThe LG G3 OLED represents a significant leap forward in TV technology, featuring groundbreaking MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology that delivers exceptional brightness while maintaining OLED's signature perfect blacks. During my evaluation, I found it produces the most impressive picture quality I've seen in a consumer TV, with stunning HDR performance and excellent gaming capabilities. While the premium price point may give some buyers pause, the overall package offers a truly next-generation viewing experience that sets new standards for high-end televisions.
